Overview of Fire Extinguisher Anatomy
Has anyone of you faced the problem of fire in their home, public space, or a commercial place? If Yes, then how do you extinguish the fire? It is definitely with the fire extinguisher. Because it is available in residential, commercial, and public spaces to control and extinguish the fire. It is an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergencies. We can,t use it in an out-of-control fire situation. It consists of different fire extinguisher parts which play a crucial role in maintaining the inside pressure, flow rate, resistance to corrosion, and weight. In this article, we will see all the general parts of a fire extinguisher with a diagram.

Parts of a Fire Extinguisher
It is for transporting the fire extinguisher from one place to another place. It gives a good operating grip while used in emergency conditions.
The function of the spring pin is to prevent the squeezing of the extinguisher agent accidentally from the cylinder. It is inserted into the valve and needs to remove the safety pin first before use.
Operating Handle cum Level
It is for opening the valve during emergency conditions. With this handle, we can open the valve to allow the extinguisher agent to come out to blow the fire.
It shows the pressure inside the cylinder. It comes with red and green marking with numbers inside and the moving arrow. As per the pressure inside the cylinder arrow moves and shows the scale of the pressure rating.
The function of the high-pressure cylinder is to store the extinguisher agent and gas at the proper pressure. It is flat from the bottom and dome shape on top. The top portion comes with the handle, operating handle, pressure gauge, valve assembly, safety pin, and outlet.
The material of the cylinder is steel due to its high strength and corrosion resistance properties. It helps to resist the explosion of the cylinder.
When we use the fire extinguisher under emergency conditions, it creates high pressure inside it. The use of high-strength material reduces the chances of exploding the fire extinguisher.
The valve opens and closes through the operating lever to let the extinguisher agent come out. Valve assembly regulates the flow of the agent. It is a forged and machined part of the fire extinguisher assembly.
It is a stainless-steel tube through which an extinguisher agent comes out to blow the fire. It is present inside the whole extinguisher assembly.
It is a gas-carrying device that helps to build the pressure inside the fire extinguisher. When we push the operating lever, the gas cartridge opens and starts to build the pressure inside.
It is present inside the assembly, which stops the spreading of the fire, and helps to blow off. These agents can be water, powder, or Na2CO3.
It is a flexible pipe that helps to direct the flow of extinguisher agents towards the fire. With our hands, we can change the direction of the hose.
It is the end portion of the hose through which the extinguisher agent comes out to blow off the fire. It is conical in shape and made of plastic.
Spray Nozzle Holder
It is a holding member attached to the high-pressure cylinder to hold the hose nozzle. When the fire extinguisher is in idle condition, this holder prevents the hose from hanging down to avoid extreme bend and breakage of the hose.
