Complete Guide for Parts of an Oven: Names, Functions & Diagram

An oven is a tool that is used to expose materials to a hot environment. Ovens contain a hollow chamber and provide a means of heating the chamber in a controlled way. Most people think that the oven is the most complicated machine because it has many parts. Every oven has 9-10 common parts. If our oven stops working, then we must know which parts of the oven are faulty. Firstly, we must know all parts of the oven to avoid such a situation.

Oven Parts & their Functions

Broil Element of Oven

It is one of the integral and important parts of any oven. It is at the top of the oven cavity.

The function of the oven broil element is to provide direct heat for our food, which is in an oven for broiling. Sometimes, the oven broil element is also used to preheat the oven faster.

The food placed for broiling in the oven cooks very fast, and it also helps to brown or caramelize the food. It enhances the taste and texture of our food.

Suppose the broil element turns on or any other visible damage is there on the broil element. In that case, we must contact our service professional to troubleshoot this problem.

Oven Rack

The oven rack is a series of metal bars connected by the metal frame. It is made of stainless steel.

The frame used for the oven rack is rectangular, and it consists of a horizontal bar placed on a series of vertical bars, which gives extra stability and strength to the oven rack to sustain any load.

It is to hold the cookware and bakeware. While cooking, the oven rack can move up and down depending on the requirement.

It is easy to change, remove, and clean. Any broken oven rack will prevent food from cooking.

Oven Bake Element

The oven brake element is the primary heat source in most ovens, and it is at the bottom of the oven cavity. This bake element is also used for the self-cleaning feature.

The oven bake element is also replaceable in most the oven. The working function of the bake element is that the electric current passes through the coil, and it heats up.

When the baking element stops heating, we can contact a service professional to replace it.

Oven Convection Fan

A convection fan helps to circulate hot air around the oven cavity, which helps to reduce cool spots and helps to cook food more evenly.

Another advantage of a convection fan is that it lowers the moisture inside the oven, which helps food cook faster.

Also, it helps to make food crisper and browner outside and juicier inside. This convection fan is on the back wall of the oven.

Convection Oven Fan Blade

In our convection oven, the fan blade is an essential part of the oven. Its function is to create and circulate airflow in the oven.

Convection Oven Baffle

If our model is a conventional oven, then a convection baffle encases the convection fan and is located at the rear wall of the oven.

The convection baffle obscures the fan, and it allows the circulation of the air in the desired area within the oven.

The distance between the baffle and the rear wall is more. It is near the side of the walls and then at the midpoint between the side walls.

Oven Light Bulb and Assembly

Oven light bulbs and assembly are to provide light inside the oven. They are generally placed at the top of the oven cavity.

One question arises: Can an ordinary bulb be used in the oven? The answer is No because there is a very high temperature inside the oven. So, a regular bulb will not sustain that temperature and get damaged.

For this purpose, the manufacturer uses a unique oven light bulb that can sustain more than 30300 degrees Celsius temperature.

Generally, halogen or incandescent light bulbs are used in the oven due to their high-temperature rating, shatter-resistant, and lifespan of about 2000 hours.

Hidden Bake Tray

The hidden bake tray is generally at the bottom of the oven cavity. Its function is to shield the baking element from dripping and spilling any fluid while cooking.

While cooking, there is a chance of fluid spilling on the baking element. So, an oven-hidden bake tray will help to protect our baked elements.

Oven Vent Tube

The oven vent tube is at the top surface of the oven cavity. Its function is to release heat and moisture in the open environment.

Gas Oven Ignitor

A gas oven ignitor is generally in the gas oven, not in an electric oven. This gas oven ignitor is commonly made of silicon carbide, which will help generate high heat.

As the name suggests, the gas oven ignitor ignites the gas at a high and desirable temperature. So, our process takes a shorter time to cook.

This gas oven ignitor is found within the oven nearer to the burner tube.
