Engine

The engine is the heart of any automobile. It generates power through the combustion of fuel inside the combustion chamber. By using this power, we can run the bike on the road.

The motorcycle uses a two-stroke or four-stroke engine and is placed in the frame. Its position helps to cool the engine through natural air circulation.

Some motorcycle uses oil cooling also. Out of all parts of the automobile, the engine has more importance. Without the engine, the bike cannot exist.

Gearbox

When the engine generates the power, the motorcycle runs on the road. But it is not possible to regulate the speed without a gearbox.

The rotary motion generated by the engine is transferred to the gearbox. In the gearbox, with the help of gear arrangement, we can reduce and increase the torque & speed of the automobile as per requirement.

Without a gearbox, it is impossible to drive the bike on the road.

Gear Changing Pedal

With the gear-changing pedal, we can change the speed and torque of the bike. We can change gears by pressing the pedal in front and back. Its arrangement differs as per the manufacturer.

Clutch

The function of the clutch is to engage and disengage the transmission from the engine. While changing the gear, we need to press the clutch to disengage the transmission and select the desired gear to transmit the rotary motion.

It has a pressure plate and a clutch plate. The pressure plate applies the pressure on a clutch plate to get engaged to transmit power.

Clutch Cable

Clutch cable help to transfer the motion to the pressure plate while disengaging and engaging.

Frame

The frame is the metal structure inside, where we can place the engine, gearbox, clutch, and other equipment. It gives strength to the motorcycle. In technical language, chassis is the correct word for the frame.

Frame gives support to the seat and the riders.

Tire

The tire is an essential part of the motorcycle to run on the road. The motorcycle has a front and rear tire, and the rear wheel has a drive.

Rim

On the rim, the tire is mounted. Rim gives support to the tire and rotates along with the axle. Its material is metal, fiber, carbon fiber, and more. The material depends on the type of vehicle and its use.

The racing category motorcycle uses metal or carbon fiber materials and in general use, it uses metal or fiber material.

Axle

It is the center part of the rim. The motorcycle rim revolves around the axle, and it is vital to bear the high load. Its material is steel and high-strength materials.

Disc Brake

It is an advanced braking system for the bike. Disc brakes are available on the front and rear wheels. As per the manufacturer, it varies.

Whenever the automobile operates at high speed, the brake system controls the speed and helps to stop the bike in emergencies.

The disc material is cast iron, grey cast iron & carbon. This material has good heat dissipation, strength, and other properties.

Calipers

These are the pads on the disc. When we press the brake, hydraulic fluid passes through the cable/pipe and presses the calipers. Due to the application of the pressure by calipers on the disc bike, speed reduces or stops.

Fenders

Fenders are the cover for the front and rear wheels. Front and rear fenders are the two types. Its function is to protect the rider or other person from sand, water, mud, and other particles when the bike is racing on the road.

It improves the look of the motorcycle. Variations in the design and shape make the bike aesthetically attractive.

Every manufacturer is developing a different design of fenders as per the vehicle type.

Suspension

There are front and rear suspensions available on the bike. Its function is to give ease to the rider when the bike passes through a rough surface or uneven surface. It absorbs the shocks & vibrations and provides a comfortable ride to the rider.

There are various types of suspensions available in the market. But coil spring suspension is most common in the automobile. Some sportbikes use mono suspension for better comfort.

Triple Clamp

A triple clamp is a part of the chassis and has a hole at the center. Through this hole front wheel and handle, of the assembly are connected.

It is so robust to bear a load of the front wheel and a bike load when running on the road.

Handle

It is an assembly of various parts which guide the bike while driving. Generally, the handle is of metal.

The front wheel assembly is directly connected to the handle through the front suspension. Handle helps the rider to make a bike stable on the road.

Headlight

Its function is to provide visibility to the rider during the night. It has a bulb inside, which glows to give visibility. The Upper and dipper are two in-built functions in the headlight. As per the need, we can use them.

Indicator/Fog Light

The function of the indicator light is to pass a signal to the other rider before a right or left turn. While taking a right turn, we push the right indicator to glow.

So, it delivers a signal to another rider when there is a high fog. In fog weather, visibility is poor, and hence indicator provides a sign by blinking the light to the other riders.

Speedometer

It is a speed-measuring device for the bike. It has a wire connected to the front wheel. When the bike runs fast on the road, the speedometer shows the speed on the speedometer.

It has speed range numbers. These numbers vary as per the manufacturer’s standards.

Start Switch

It is a switch on the handle to start the engine. Nowadays instead of a kick, many bikes have a start switch to start the bike. It is an additional arrangement given to every bike. It uses starting motor to start the engine.

Windshield

It protects the glass on the front of the handle. It is made of plastic and is transparent.

Mirror

There are two mirrors on the bike. Its function is to get visibility of the vehicles coming from the backside.

Carburetor

In most petrol engines, we find carburetors. Its function is to clean the air and send petrol and air mixture to the combustion chamber. Without a carburetor, it is impossible to start and run the engine.

Seat

There are two seats on the bike. One is for the rider, and the other is for the passenger. It is made of foam and covered with leather material. Its shape and size differ as per the manufacturer.

Seat Rest

The seat rest supports the passenger while riding the bike. It provides comfort to the back when we travel a long distance. It has metal support with foam and leather covering.

Tool Box

For any maintenance or emergency, we require various tools. So in every motorcycle, there is an arrangement for the toolbox. Its location may differ as per the company standards.

Fuel Tank

As the name suggests, it is for storing fuel on the bike. It has a different shape and design. Its material is high-strength material to avoid damage due to external load. It is in between the handle and the front seat.

Tail Light

It is an indicator light for the riders who come from behind. It is red and glows when we press the brake pedal. So the other riders drive the bike carefully, or it indicates the danger.

Footrest

It is a support to the foot when we sit on the bike. There are front footrests and rear footrests available.

Final Drive

The final drive transferred via the engine to the bike’s rear wheel. The chain transfers the motion from the engine to the rear wheel to run the bike.

Chain

It is a metallic drive that helps to transfer motion. It engages with the rear wheel sprocket to motion transfer from the engine.

Stand

After riding the bike, it is necessary to park it to cool down the engine temperature. So while parking stands are essential and without a stand, it is hard to park the bike.

The side stand and the main stand are two arrangements there. We use a side stand for short-period parking bikes and the main stand for long-time-period parking.

Its material is steel to protect it from rust and sustain the high load of the bike.

Exhaust Pipe

It is a pipe coming out from the engine. Its function is to send exhaust gases out from the engine. It is made of steel and connected to the silencer.

Silencer

It is also known as a muffler. Its function is to convert harmful exhaust gases into less toxic gases. Due to that pollution decreases.

It uses a honeycomb structure from the inside to trap carbon and other particles. Also, the water supply inside the silencer lower pollution by reacting with harmful gases.

As the name suggests, it reduces the noise produced due to fuel combustion.

Name Plate

The nameplate shows the actual registration number of the vehicle. It is on the back side and front sides of the automobile.
